backhoe bucket won’t move

CJRemod ยท 2012-04-24 16:18

580SK backhoe bucket was gradually getting harder to raise and lower and today it finally is stuck in the raised position, can't get it to lower, loader clam works fine only the raising and lowering function is not working. Even when the machine is shut down the bucket stays up, the control lever won't move. I don't use this machine a lot so it sits quite a bit if that helps and the fluid levels seam to be fine. Before I start tinkering- anyone have this problem before or an idea of the problem?thanks CJ

So what you are saying is the 'control lever' will NOT move when the machine is running and also when the machine is NOT running???

CJ, firstly, welcome to HEF! :drinkup You need to pull the clevis pin at the lift spool at the loader control valve. This will show if the tightness is in the controls or the spool.

    that is correct

I would check all the linkages to the loader lift spool and the self leveler, remove the cover on the side to see the control valve, keep bystanders clear of the loader move the control lever to raise and lower while watching the spool travel, there could be a issue with the detent for the loader float where it has screwed itself out of the lift spool not letting it lower the loader, you have to confirm spool travel with the lever in the raise, neutral, lower, float, it would be alot safer with the loader down on the ground so think your actions threw to be safe.

thanks for the welcome. i'll give that a try. Fortunately i do have the parts catalog for my machine that can assist me in finding the "clevis pin at the lift spool at the loader control valve" I just removed the step/cover over the loader control valve and will continue tomorrow (wife says dinner is ready, can't make her wait) thanks again

The lift spool should be the centre section on the control bank

alrman thanks a ton!! :notworthy problem was in the controls.. after removing the clevis pin I found that the problem is with the controls and not the valve...after removing the mat from the floor of the inside of the cab I see the floor has rusted threw in several places and undoubtedly has effected the controls to the loader. thanks again to all hopefully i can be a giver on this forum someday.
