A friend of mine has recently acquired a Bay City 45 dragline with the stipulation he can get it running. He has gotten most things freed up and working but ran into a problem. He was trying to travel, He said the crane lurched forward a bit then stopped, can't get it to move anymore. He told me he took the cover off the differential, the ring and pinion were turning but neither axle. Not sure if something is broke or if something is just not going into gear, so to speak. Any suggestions? Crane has been sitting approximately nine years. 3-71 Detroit is running well.
Was the ring gear just spinning on the carrier ? seen them shear off all the bolts.
Ended up being a twisted off axle. Couldn't see it till He got it all apart. He is going to see if He can get one made up by a machine shop.
