rebuilding a large screening bucket. thought i’d share some before and after pics. removed the customers previous repairs. ( 1 in square solid bars) and replaced it with 1/2thick ar400 wear plate. water jet and brake formed then lots of 7018 lol. hopefully it lasts better. origanllay was ordered with 6in openings. arrived with 1 in openings. manufacturer came and torched the holes out bigger and within 2 hrs it was blowing apart. my customer attempted to repair it enuf to finish his job and brought it for a better repair job when he can spare the bucket long enuf. mighta been a better way to do it and if anyone has any input i’d gladly take some. just in case it comes back busted up and i have to do it again for him lol.
Thats a cool bucket and great looking repair to bad it came messed up I hate to suggest it because your repair looks like its going to last a long time but if you ever need some really tough material check out fordsteel of course shipping to canada would be cost prohibitive though
thanks. i hope it lasts longer this time. was a **** pile of torching, grinding and welding.
What is something like this used for?
If you have to do it again, I would put a larger radius in the corners of the cut outs.
That looks a cracking repair to me .
the body of the bucket turns and screens out the bucket load. customer wants 6 in and larger stone only. dips a full bucket in the water and tumbles it. after all that is left is clean washed stone bigger than the cut outs.
i actually thought about doing just that but the customer asked for square cut outs. hopefully it don’t crack at the corners. ar400 plate has a tensile strength of around 180000 psi and is fully thru hardened so i’m hopeful it will take the abuse. time will tell
Making circles instead of squares would probably make stronger and help stop rocks from getting jammed in the corners . Very professional looking job.
thanks ,i totally agree that circles would have been stronger. even large radius corners would have been better. def will go that route if it comes back.
Eh, if it bothers you enough, you could put a weld on each corner. Gives it a little radius. But what you built looks way stronger than what was there before.
