Bobcat T300 Purifier Muffler and Drive oil leak question

motionclone · 2023-01-02 19:36

Hi All, I have a 2004 Bobcat T300 and have a couple questions. Question1: I have the "Purifier" muffler. is this an early form of particulate filter? Am i supposed to clean it somehow? Cant find any info on it. Question2: My left drive oil leaks out so the seal must be blown so in a pinch i put grease in it. Seems to be working fine and no noise. I know some reduction drives like my EX have needle bearings in the final and grease might not get to that bearing but in my T300 it seems there is only 1 large wheel bearing that is bathed in the final oil. Would some low vis grease be ok for a while? Hate to spend 4k on a drive motor because of a leaky seal and looks like special tools are required to replace the seal. Thanks for any help

This is for T300 with spark arrestor muffler.

From my experience, grease into a final drive ends up costing much more in the end than just fixing it.

Ive read that and I understand why on a final that has a needle bearing. On this drive though its only one large hub bearing that gets oil. Fixing correctly is the right way for sure but my drive is otherwise working perfectly and it seems i need special tools to do the reseal job. Even my bobcat dealer said they would just replace the drive not reseal. So at $4500 for a new drive i was wondering if grease would lube that large hub bearing just like a car or truck bearing that is bathed in grease rather than oil.

I've seen the main hub bearings on a few excavator final drives get burnt up badly because grease was used. Just my personal experience.

It’s not that nobody knows the answer, it’s just a hard question to answer. I don’t think there is a lot of data available regarding success rates of pumping T300 finals full of grease. Guys like 92U 3406 spend their careers doing proper repairs. Not home gaming it. Same with me, nobody pays me to pump their finals full of grease. Let us know how it works out. Who knows, you might get another 1000 hrs.
