Boom failure?

2018 CAT 336F Excavator Bucket # 3422205 k110 teeth 60" RKB20659 Hey guys I’m working on this machine because the operator states that he didn’t touch the controls and the machine automatically started sticking in and even started digging in the dirt a little barely missing his guy in the trench. They shut off the disconnect for a bit and started it up and it stopped. Said there was a code but now it’s gone. Any ideas? Maybe a solenoid on that specific function failed?

Do you mean you looked for a Code in the Service Diagnostics Menu and nothing is registered.?

What’s that mean? It was trying to get me to fill out a warranty

Did anyone give that operator a sobriety test?

If you’re talking about cat et this is for the engine to test if each cylinder is firing. The warranty report question comes up on every machine. Just click no and carry on. You will need to go to the hydraulic ecm and check control valve inputs. Also check logged codes if it’s not active.

No event logged or active codes. Everything seems fine

Was the safety lever up or down when this occurred?

It was In the run position which is why I’m skeptical about it. It’s a whole lot of fuss over this. There sending a wheeler tech out now.

Please keep us updated. Curious as to cause.

Wheeler went out and checked all pilot valves, spools, controls and couldn’t get it to react. They said leaning on the arm rest would make it go in so wheeler tried to replicate that and to no success. Long story short I’m guessing it was just 5 o’clock somewhere

If the stick cylinder is bypassing (and generating debris) that will cause all sorts of weird stuff to happen. Know if the the cylinder got checked? Were filters cut open and inspected? All pretty standard checks for chasing uncommanded movement.

no nothing like that happened. they dont wanna go forward with it because its working fine now. so i guess we'll see what happens for now
