i just noticed today with the machine parked . i can push n pull the dipper bucket back n forth a few inches i see the cyl rod going in n out with it too .. air inside ? glands ? control?

Does it feel spongy or is there a clunk inside it? Any leaks?
Bad piston seals would be my first guess.
What about if the bolt securing the gland to the rod came loose and backed off a few rounds?
Dirtdauber, yep I have seen that happen... Usually they'll clunk back and forth if there's mechanical slop somewhere.
spongy not clunks , some days it holds after use , some days overnight it drifts , slight wetness at the seal , that a heavy beothc to pull out
