Case 1845c brake system

Hi all, i have an 1845c but it seems the park brake system is missing!, all that remains is two tubes sticking out of the oil baths in line with the cluster gear? Either it was completely removed or not fitted, confusing! I would like to reinstate the brakes as a brick under the wheel is downright dangerous, that got me thinking, all the brackets wires and stuff, why not use a solenoid to operate the pin? Ie an electrical system. Power would pull the pins, loose power or switch off and the pins release, a microswitch could be fitted to the operators lap arm. Any thoughts? Mark

While it might sound good at first just think about what happens when you are running along at full speed with a full bucket of material and the micro switch decides to fail. The cluster gear is turning an the pins pop out and engauge the holes and tries to stop the forward movement. Would not be pretty! We had an 1845 years ago that no one would say what happened but both the tubes were ripped right out of the chain boxes. Eithe some one tried engaging the brake while moving or some one did not know how the brakes worked and keep trying to get machine to move with brake engaged until the tubes failed. We did manage to repair it, I'll explain how later.

There are lots of salvage units around.

Maybe in Iowa but not sure over in Wales? We were looking for some boom/bucket parts for our 1845C a couple years ago and the ones in the salvage yards sometimes looked better than the one we were fixing!:beatsme
