Case 580 SL VS 590 SL Backhoe

Question for those who have operated both a 580SL and a590SL Case. What are the operational differences? What difference does the extra weight make on the 590? What difference does the extra Horsepower and hydraulic capacity make on the 590? Do you give up anything in nimbleness and speed on a 590 over a 580? Do you really need extendahoe (with the extra reach on a 590) on a 590? Thanks for the responses!

I need to make another reply, to up my status. So old thread is fine , right? I have a 580 super k ( not quite an L), and a 590 super L. The swing on the 580 is faster by far. The 590 is more robust, and faster in most other ways. The 590 is more "nimble" . I think from the wide stance and larger tires/gearing.

Properly set up there is no comparison between a 580SL and a 590 SL, the difference in craning ability is way better, I always made sure at predelivery that the flows and pressure settings were at spec and sometimes bumped the boom lift secondary up a bit to stiffen the boom cylinder from squashing out when craning, a hundred or two PSI made a real horse out of a 590, also fudged the main relief a bit at times for specific purposes, not a lot, craning big culvert boxes is where a little extra helps.

Further to @melben a 590SL will drink more fuel than a 580SL. Over a 8-10hr day you will consume a full tank of fuel especially if using the loader more than the hoe. More than a few times I have had call outs to prime machines that have run dry around 3-4PM in the afternoon ......

Definitely use up the fuel running the backhoe on the early 590L, as the priority swing prefers 2000 rpm min.
