I have a Case 580k that came w a property that we bought. Fuel injectors were pulled out, can of starter fluid sitting on the seat.Had a contractor come out, convinced me the engine needed to be replaced. He now has been working for the past year trying to get the newly rebuilt engine to start. Charged me $10,000 plus so far, still no engine. How hard is it to get the fuel injectors to match up with the timing? Tells me the fuel pump needed to be rebuilt to match the new fuel injectors. States it will start with starter fluid but won’t stay running. I am hearing it’s a timing issue….maybe. How complicated is a 580k engine? Case dealer asked that I have the engine installed and they will review it and see why it won’t start. I’m perplexed. Any thoughts sincerely appreciated
Always start with the basics. Check the timing, compression and pump timing. Running on ether is not good for an engine. What kind of pro can't diagnose a mechanical injected diesel. They are super simple. Seems like $10,000 for a non-running engine is a bit much but oh well. Reach out the @thepumpguysc . If you spent that much on a rebuild you should send him your pump and injectors.
How old is this machine? What engine? Case or CDC(Cummins). If the ‘contractor’ that ‘rebuilt’ your engine can’t get it running then i am wondering what the quality of his ‘rebuild’ is.
Welcome to HEF, SI , It could be as simple as a fuel shut off solenoid problem or the fuel supply to the injection pump. Your engine is not complicated at all, just the dummy that butchered it. New piston rings do NOT take kindly to ether.
Depending on the engine and the injection pump, it’s super simple to diagnose.. AND.. u don’t match a pump to injectors.!! Sorry to hear that you’ve gotten taken to the cleaners.!! I know people who haven’t paid THAT MUCH for a complete, running and working 580.!! If it’s a RoosaMaster/Stanadyne injection pump, remove ALL the return fittings from the top of the pump and try to start it.. U should be able to look inside the pump if u removed all the fittings.. It just depends on what fuel system u have.. Need more info..
