No fuel coming out injection pump. When i prime the fuel it builds pressure but nothing comes out the lines going to engine. Surprisingly it has ran fine when i do get it started. Buying a new pump seems too costly and talking the old one off looks like a lot of work. Is there a way to clean the injection pump?
Just wondering if you had the key turned on when priming as the pump has a fuel shut off solenoid inside it?
Depending on which pump you have, will dictate how we diagnose it. CAV/DELPHI pump, you can remove the top cover and check for a stuck metering valve.. it could also be a faulty electric shut-off solenoid..on the inj. pump. easiest way to check it is remove it [15/16' wrench] and hit it with 12 volt on the center spade and ground on the body. it should pull in.
If it is the Roosamaster/Stanadyne style it could be the return check is blocked and the housing has pressurized, won't even try to start like that.
So it will start if you persist? Or it now will not start at all? If it is a 580K (without turbo) it will be a CAV pump. The fuel shut off is located under the rear of the injector pump - be certain you have 12V going to it & you should hear it "click" when power is applied.
