Welcome to HEF @Dale pettigrew There is no way hydraulic oil can enter the engine, as there are no pumps connected to the timing cover. If the engine oil level is overfull, the cause will likely be fuel entering the engine via the lift pump OR the seal at the injector pump drive gear. It's not good to run the engine overfull OR to run it with diluted oil, so if you can't fix it asap, drop the oil & refill with fresh to the correct level & monitor how long it takes to move up the dipstick. If you place a drop of the diluted oil on a paper towel, the fuel will separate from the oil within a minute or so, with a ring forming around the oil droplet.

Hello thank you for the info, i replaced lift pump still over filling crankcase 2 qts in 30 min machine still performs well no smoke, starts quickly so im guessing its the injector pump seal. any input would greatly appreciated

Hi Dale.. welcome aboard.. I can tackle that leak for ya.. It looks like it’s a Bosch VE pump.. I have a tool to take the front seal out of the housing w/o taking the pump apart..

    Wow,how does this work ?

  7. #7thepumpguysc2021-11-05 23:17

It’s a cone shaped metal tool w threads on the outside.. and a T handle that goes thru the center. The threads bite into the seal as u turn it in clockwise.. And u jack it out w the center screw... It’s pretty slick.. The front seal has been the weak spot in those pumps for a long time.. Bosch finally got it right.. they changed the seal 3-4 different times.. I’ve got a small herd of the correct ones in stock.. Lemme know if I can help..

Good mourning,i tested new lift pump and old lift pump the pluged outlet side operate cam lever comes to pressure in less than 1 stroke of cam lever loosen outlet plug fuel sprayes out of plug with no leaks out of back of old or new lift pump.so i am wondering if i put air pressure to inlet side of installed lift pump and removed inspection cover in timing cover just below injector pump would i be able to see diesel washing inside timing cover ??? or are pump pressures required to view leak thanks for all the help this forum is a great resource thanks again Dale

There’s only 2-3 places that fuel can get into the oil.. 1.. front seals on the inj pump. 2.. supply pump 3.. injectors (not likely)

U don’t put air in the inlet.. U put it in the outlet.. It might show up or it might just push the fuel out and not let u HEAR the air..

The camshaft lobe that operates the lift pump can and do wear down and decrease the amount of stroke of the pump. I have only seen it happen twice.

Have you removed the outlet tube on the lift pump and cranked the engine over to see how much flow is coming out ? Look closely for air bubbles.
