Helping a friend with his 680H. I have all three manuals but can't seem to get info for the specific problem. Went to drain, flush, and refill transmission (filter and screen also) and have green antifreeze at every drain point. The service manual points to a hydraulic/trans cooler in front of radiator, but can't seem to find where the coolant would go into transmission. There is a possibility that it was tampered with due to being left in hostile territory for an extended length of time. I didn't want to waste the effort and materials if there is a possibility of a cooler failure. Thanks for any input you might have. Dan
The transmission oil cooler is inside the radiator at the bottom of it. You can trace the hoses to verify it. The cooler in front of the radiator is for hydraulic oil.
Thank you Tinkerer. I will be at the machine this week sometime and see. May have to bypass it for the time being as we need to move the machine soon.
If it is the cooler in the radiator, you will need to either plug the outlets or make a hose to connect them together or you will be loosing coolant. The transmission lines can be connected together to be able to move it. The antifreeze should be drained out of the transmission and clean oil should be in it before you run it at all. Bad things can happen if there is much antifreeze or water is in it while running it.
I can imagine. We will flush it with some clean oil before attempting to move it, just didn't want to throw away new oil. When we loosened the drain plug it was nothing but good old green antifreeze. Thanks again!
