Case CX 210 hydraulic problem

TORQUE ยท 2015-09-09 20:55

After I start the machine it pops up "electrical problem" and a slight movement of any of the hydraulic functions seems to lock like the pump is dead heading and will kill the engine. Dealer is trying to tell me it's an injection pump problem and a lack of power, I think no way. Some times if you restart the engine it will work OK for 30 seconds then kill the engine when "electrical problem"pops up. An old thread mentioned an update of the pump regulators to cure a similar problem. Any advice or point me to a dealer that knows these machines. Thanks

Sounds like the proportional coils are bad or the wiring

Does this have the cummins engine? Usually "electrical problem" is caused by a bad lift pump/relay. If the regulators were bad, you would still be able to feather the machine, and not stall the engine. I would be checking the electric lift pump first. It also has a screen in it, just twist the bottom off. It may have failed internally. Sometimes you just have to change it. Any smoke from the engine? How many hours?

Yes Cummins, no smoke when it kills the engine, thought maybe the electonic pump wouldn't let it smoke. About 6500 hours.

Check you fault codes, and see if any are active. Reply back with the codes. Active faults will be in diag1. Stored faults will be in diag2. Diag3 is the last occurrence of stored faults in diag2. The fuel pump is only semi-electronic.

    Thanks, will get the codes

The only code under diag 1 is 368. The codes under diag2 are 4, 165, 1126, 1162, 1383, 1384, 1873. I assume diag 3 is the hours that they occured at, all under 2000 hours. When this thing screws up you can be moving the boom or stick fine then "electrial problem" pops up on the screen and it will instantly kill the engine.

The codes you listed in diag 2 don't appear to be in my list. The code 368 is vp44 fuel system timing error. You need to check you fuel system. Check your fuel pressure of the lift pump. Should be at least 10psi. If its not, make sure your fuel lines are not rotten, check your fuel tank for dirt, change your fuel filters, and check the filter in the electric lift pump. There is also a screen in the banjo fitting in the water separator. Also get the information on the injection pump tag. Need the sn. Early pumps had a timing issue. If the lift pump pressure is low, it cant advance the timing. This is a similar vp44 injection pump that was used in dodge trucks. Low lift pump pressure often caused these pumps to fail.

Fuel pressure is 12 psi engine running. The only # on the injection pump is a bar code with 39--536 on it.

What does the fuel pressure drop to, when the fault occurs? You are measuring this at the injection pump? There should be a 9 digit code on the tag on the pump, just below the bar code. If your fuel pressure stays good, you may have a bad vp44 relay. Its between the engine and counterweight.. It sometimes fails or gets corroded.

Thank s I will check further, is that relay near the pan rail? Just checked, fuel pressure, does not drop, checked at the top of th spin on filter. Pump # 0039, then 2 upside down 7's, then 536.

After more investigation I don't think it's fuel related. If I start the hoe and immediately start traveling it works fine, can go back and forth for 5 minutes no problem but if I stop moving, within 5 seconds it pops up "electrical problem" and the system will not move without killing the engine. Tried this 5 times works the same every time.

So if you start traveling after starting the engine, it works ok? What happens if you stall the stick or bucket just after starting? What is your fuel pressure when "electrical problem" comes on? What is the fuel pressure when you stall the stick? The vp44 relay is near the oil pan, and its hard to get off of the relay holder. The injection pump tag should have 3 digits, then a space, and 6 more digits.
