I have been trying out a used 2006 case cx 80 excavator for the last few days and I noticed on the first start of the day the engine will cough and sputter blowing alittle white exhaust, then after awhile it smooths out--just wondering is this common for these isuzu engines or is it blow by. The machine has 1100hrs on it.
What does the white smoke smell like? If it smells like raw diesel, it has a bad injector that's leaking raw diesel fuel into the cylinder. If it smells like coolant, it has bigger issues. It could be that there's a leak in the fuel system that allows air into the lines after sitting all night.
When you start it do you work straight away. Whenever i arrive to a job, first thing i do is start the machine and then put on my boots and crap. I usally give it 10 mins or so to warm up
Im knew to the machine just trying it out, I usually let it warm up a while, but while its warming up its got a rough idle for a few minutes. after it warms up no problems. Anything else ive run has a smooth idle and there might be alittle white puff of smoke at the start.
if it starts right up and isnt skipping when its cold and has white smoke for 2~3 seconds it most like ok as long as the smoke smells like fuel not antifreeze. If it skips some it could be one injector that is getting dirty and may just need a dose of fuel system cleaner . Hard to say
