Hey guys. We toasted the tranny. Anyone know where I can find a new one? Just bought it, brought it home and used it for 6 hrs. I'm located by lloydminster sask. Thanks. Probably been awhile since anyone worked on one of these as its a 1978.

It's an Allison transmission, used in many different wheel loaders. Along with Case; Ford, John Deere, Terex and probably others used them. There were several minor differences such as control valves ect. Crawl under the machine and find the tag on the trany and start calling around. They're old but were a very popular trany.

Have you pulled the filter and strainer ?. Don't know if you have been around the 24 machine much, but the left brake pedal work's a clutch cutout on the trans control valve that can dump the pressure to the trans causing it not to move, dirt and rocks can also cause the pedal to not release fully under the lower edge of it. On the control valve rh side of the trans, there will be a air line that hooks to the clutch cut out cylinder, after building air pressure, turn engine off, remove the hose with a 9/16 wrench, note if you have a flow of air, the brake pedal on the left is leaking by causing the clutch cutout to be dumping pressure. If you have no air flow, unscrew the cut off out of the valve, check to see if the plunger inside is stuck in the unit, it must be free to move inside the little valve, air pushes it when the brake pedal on the lt is pushed down. Also note if you have a large amount of oil in that line ( have you drained the air tanks) was there a lot of oil/water in them. You could also have a early machine with a fiber drive for the convertor, these will fail and cause you to think the trans is out when all you may need is a new ring. The later s/n machines had a flex plate drive system. Do you have a s/n of the machine ?. Like said above, a lot of rebuilder's of that trans out there, parts or a rebuilt unit should not be a problem.

So new tranny is $7000. Redhead gonna pay for half if we install it ourselves. Do we have to split this thing in half? Thanks guys.

It seems you're sure the transmission is the problem. Have you done some tests? What did you find? If the transmission does have to come out, you pull the engine & then the trans. Or if you have the equipment, pull the engine & trans together & separate them when out.
