Anyone have an idea of what the cost would be to replace the main pump and hydraulic oil on a Cat 215B?
in the low 5 figures
On a 9yb 215B 2 reman piston pumps run about $9000 or 4500 a piece in Canada. The hyd tank holds 40 us gallons x your oil price. 8 hours or so labour at whatever rate you get.
Thanks for the replies, I was looking at buying a 215B. I was told that cats have a tendency for pumps to go out at around 8000 hrs. Does anyone no if thats true?
In no way is that true. I know of 215's and 219's with up to 24000 hours on their pumps. These are 1 owner machines. It would all depend on how they have been looked after, and how clean the oil has been kept. These are some of the best machines Cat ever made !!!
No that's not true. You might see some servo link wear in the pump internal control by 12000 hrs but that's cheap to fix. Clean oil and filters is important.
Thanks for the replies guys, you definitely helped ease my mind.
Get it hot and dig hard with it, ran one the other day, after it warmed up a bit you could dig with it in hard ground and the pumps would start squealing and the machine would not pull its self toward the hole or pick the rear of the machine up it would just stop digging . I would say warm it up and put it in a strain and if it was still strong and not making a lot of noise buy it, they wanted 11,000 for this one, i let them keep it!!! Pumps were 2,800 each reman
