Hi, I have a caterpillar 235 excavator. The serial number is 32K03805. My rotary manifold started leaking. Is it possible to remove the top manifold and replace the oil seals without removing the main swivel body from underneath the machine? I have taken out the six bolts and disconnected the pipes but I can't lift and remove the manifold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Highly unlikely IMHO. And even if you could get the swivel apart with part of it still installed in the machine you would most likely damage the new seals when you went to reassemble it due to the confines of the space in which you would be working. Remove it complete and split it on the bench is the accepted way in order to guarantee the quality of the repair.
