CAT 277C MTL Tilt cylinders inop

usmcmechanic45 ยท 2015-11-03 06:42

I have a CAT 277c MTL, the tilt cylinders when depressed on the joystick lock out the entire hydraulic system besides the driving hydraulics. a orange diamond with an exclamation point appears inside flashing. I am trying to figure out why the movement of the joystick is causing the system lockout safety feature. You have to restart the vehicle multiple times to be able to raise or lower the attachments once you have tried to use the tilt cylinders. I currently do not have the CAT ET system to pull a code or recalibrate that is why I am asking on here. any ideas with a method to resolve situation would be greatly appreciated. ASAP it is a military piece of gear.

When the Alert Indicator (the orange diamond with an exclamation point appears inside flashing) lights up are there any other indicators lit at the same time..?

Nothing else seems to be indicated when that light comes on... the vehicle can still move just not lifting arms or tilt cylinders...that part becomes locked out

Sorry I have bad news for you ....... according to the Operator Manual - "If no additional alert indicators are illuminated, contact your Caterpillar dealer"

Is the door closed? loader is locked out if door is open. there should be a jumper pigtail you can plug into the door switch if you want to run it with the door off

do you know where the jumper pigtail is located.

We recently had the same problem with a 287C. The door switch pigtail was faulty (wires run wiper/washer and door safety switch). We always had the bypass pigtail sitting in the cup holder; it was easy to just unplug the door wiring and plug in the bypass plug, and this will help troubleshoot the problem. Purchasing the bypass switch from Cat would not be expensive if you no longer have the one that came with the machine.

Here's the wiring circuit for the door switch. You can probably fabricate a jumper. The electronic control is sensing a connection to ground via one or other of 2 inputs, G943 BU (blue) from the NO side of the door switch, G944 YL (yellow) from the NC side. When the door is open wire G944 is connected to the 200 BK (black) wire which is ground, G943 is open circuit. When the door closes the switch flips and now G944 is open circuit and G943 has continuity to ground. Hope that helps. Edit: For Part Numbers to make the jumper harness. You will need about 4-6" of 18 SWG auto wire. If the 3-pin plug on the cab harness is male you will need a 102-8803 Receptacle plus 2 x 8T-8730 socket. If the plug on the cab harness is female you need a 155-2260 Plug Kit plus 2 x 8T-8729 Pins.

I appreciate all the insight to that.. the only difference is the Cab is Up armored and it has a little diff setup wiring wise. I will pull the door on the box and see if that could be an issue and let yall know.
