Have a 2006 Cat 287b skidsteer that has a problem. Was digging some dirt today with it and went too do something, came back went too turn the parking brake off and it wouldn't go off, just flashed at me and also the seat belt light. They both flash at the same time all the time. The skidsteer starts up no problem but in order too make it move that parking brake needs too be disengaged and the light off. I check the parking brake solenoid off the machine and it has magnetics and its working properly. Any other ideas? Really need some help we are about 45 minutes from the nearest cat dealer.
There has been a problem with wires rubbing on the joystick controller for dual direction controls. Look very carefully at the harness coming from the joystick to see if this has happened. You may have to lift the cab. I don't know if this will cause your exact issue but it is worth a look. Other than that, if you are still experiencing problem you better call CAT. There are a number of issues that could have caused this and most of them are electrical dealing with various coils. Just my advise. Others here may have better advise.
If it is just the park light flashing then its a problem with the switch or wiring but because both are flashing then its a problem with one of the pilot solenoids or related wiring. Check for rubbed harnesses, unplugged connectors and check to make sure the coils have a resistance of 5000 ohms or greater. The parking solenoid is under the cab on the left and there is a Hydrostatic Pilot solenoid and a work tool solenoid in each respective joy stick.
Ok thanks for the responses, We had it sitting overnight and went too start it and it started working again but about an hour later it started doing the same thing, so let it set for awhile and then it started working again. would that be like a sticking solenoid maybe? Not sure if that sheds any more light on the situtation
Looks like the Hydrostatic pilot solenoid is leaking quite badly could that be the problem?? I have been trying too measure resistance with this digital voltmeter I got and a troubleshooting guide from cat, with the harness that goes to the ecm but cannot seem too get it too read, not sure what the problem is. The key has too be off??
To check resistance (or continuity) of a coil it has to be disconnected from the harness. (No machine power to coil) One probe on one terminal and the other probe to the other terminal. If the meter reads OL then go to the next meter scale up. Remember that when using an ohmmeter the meter produces its own current (usually 9V battery located in the meter). What this means is do not put your fingers on the probes, only the wires or you will get an erroneous reading. Sounds like you should be reading 5000K ohms or greater. If you read OL on the scale that fits then the coil is open = replace. Hope this helps.
unplug the solenoid and probe the 2 pins on the coil wires. the resistance on the coil should be 5000 ohms or more
Could you tell me what setting I should put my digital volt meter on I haven't used these things hardly at all so am still trying to figure this out. Thanks so much for all the help.
You need to be on ohms which on the meter is an omega symbol and you need to be higher than 5K or 5000 ohms to get a reading.
Did you get this solved?
