Cat 304 won’t start, need to rotate cab

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to look at this. Our 304 had some work done recently, and like most items fixed they revealed other issues! What we thought was a battery on it's way out ended up being what we now believe is a bad starter. The issue we have is that the starter is accessed from underneath, and due to the current position of the cab it is inaccessible. Is there a way we can release the hydraulics to allow the cab to rotate freely? I have other equipment available to lift the boom and assist in the rotation. Any thoughts?

You should be able to remove the swing drive motor from the gearbox, the motor has the brake internal. (On bigger machines anyway, not sure on the 304.)

Have you tried rapping the starter with anything that can reach it. You might get lucky and save yourself some hassle. Hold the key to start and knock away.

Great reply. This trick usually works once and when started you can move it to a better swing position or work area.
