Cat 312 main pump

Hi guys, i have a 312 that is smashing up the hydraulic pump. I installed a complete hydraulic pump from a second working machine and it did the same thing. There is two pumps inline, the inside one if you are looking from the side door. Can anyone give me some possible ideas?

Did you clean the entire hyd system before you ran your 'new' pump?

+1. Trashing a main pump requires a full system cleanout (lines, valves, cylinders, travel/swing motors, & hoses) before installing the replacement pump. Failing to do that cleanout will more than likely trash the replacement pump in short order.

Yea i think the sediments in the system lines, hose etc. might cause the second pump to give up. The entire system was not properly flushed out. thanks for the info, a local cat guy told me the same story.

No, the entire system was not not clean as it should before the new pump installed. Insight from a local guy suggested that might be the reason for the second pump failure. thanks for the insight and we are gathering all the info that might cause this to happen in order to avoid a third pump error.

Try a search on these forums. There is likely a procedure posted somewhere of exactly what needs to be done to clean out an excavator hydraulic system after a pump failure. Saves re-inventing the wheel.
