Hi I'm having difficulty figuring out where a leak is coming from... I had a mechanic replace the seals in the swivel group and now i'm losing fluid and its coming out at the seam of the gears between upper (cab) and lower (track). my mechanic has not come back so i'm looking to figure this out myself and was hoping someone could help. serial no. is 6XM00309 thanks
That location you describe usually indicates oil leaking out of the bottom of the swing gear box and into the tub. Have you checked the oil level in the swing gear? Many times the seal in the swing motor will start leaking and fill the gear box below. All the wear metals in the gear box settle on the seal which eats and groove in the shaft and then the seal doesn't. The oil fills the tub that holds gears for the pinion and ring gears and then overflows through the slewing bearing and makes a big mess on the carbody.
Thanks for that info...so the fluid used in the swing motor is regular hydraulic fluid? Cuz that's where I have to keep adding is in main hydraulic tank. Thought it's funny that just replaced swivel group seals and then this mess. Where is the swing motor located? Is that the unit with its own dipstick ? Thanks again
Swing motor oil is hydraulic fluid. The box with the dipstick is the reduction gear. It should have engine oil or gear oil on the dipstick. Oil may be leaking out the bottom.
Ok so the swing motor is near the swivel?... Sorry bout not knowing all this... I'm mechanical but not sure where to look for all this. Really appreciate info
Ok so the swing gear is located near swivel? I'm mechanical but new to these machines so I'm hoping to pinpoint what everything is then hopefully fix it. Thanks
This isn’t for your machine but should give you a hint where to look for leaks 1)check hoses 2)dip stick 3)wherever metal sections are bolted together 4)where pinion gear comes out of gear box. Bottom photo is an example of a swivel
If you are adding oil to the hydraulic system it could be either the swing motor or the swivel (that part that allows the super structure to turn over the undercarriage while still delivering hydraulic power to the components of the undercarriage). My 315CLC started leaking hydraulic oil from the swivel and the oil came out through the swing bearing (similar to what you have described).
Check the oil level in the swing box see if it is thin like hyd. fluid it should be 80-90 weight if it is thin then the swing motor seals are bad
