Thanks for your reply, thought there wouldn't be any insights. Anything ( - ) about this crawler compared to other excavators in the same catergorey? Or anything to look on before deciding. TKS

Hi, I'd be more detailed for asking suggestions so i might get some helping info. Now my project : is mainly to haul ore rocks ( crushed 50cm - 80cm ) to cement factory. Distance from loading to factory is 5KM ( round trip is 10KM ) currently we have new 08 units ( Hino 700 6x4 trucks ) loading avg. 20T - 25T " standby to start the job " I am still looking for excavators, intrested in cat 320D. But my main objective is to get max. Cycle because our income is calculared by TONS. Between the 320D cat, and the rather bigger Komatsu PC300-8 which would be more sutiable for my project? I'v never used the 300 or any of this size, i have only used Komatsu pc200-6 (sold). So regarding all aspects including consumption, reliablitiy and any thing that you gurus think i should understand please feel free to qoute me here. Need help, thanks

Hi SVP, if your objective is to get max cycle time production, and all you're doing is loading crushed ore rock on haul trucks, there's no way a 200 size excavator can compare to a 300 size in that application. Break out force is not a factor, bucket capacity is, and the 300 can handle a lot more bucket size than a 200. Yes, there will be more initial investment to purchase the 300, but both machines have to produce tons of production to recover their purchase investment, the 300 will produce the tonnage to get there much quicker. JMHO.

Hi willie59, Your right, but the differance in really not that much. Komatsu 300-8LC : 1.80m3 Komatsu 200-8LC : 1.70m3 Differance = 0.1m3.. I really not sure if this is really differant return in cycly, but over here i have seen many owners up size there PC200 / 320D bucket. So, yeah there is size differant but would it be cost wise to get the smaller size and upgrade the bucket. OR would it be better just to go with the big crawlers. If so, how about consuption and reliablity between the bigger seires cat and komatsu. Is there anything perfur more than the other make. Thanks,

The more important question is how many 25 ton trucks do you have to go the 6 mile one way trip and what their cycle time would be considering the terrain and traffic? Then you should size your excavator accordingly. Alot of variables here. Good Luck

Hi Hawkeye, Thanks for reply, We have to haul at least 2,000-TON / Day. Though the more the better, unlimited need of supply from the factory. We're working directly from the ore mine to the factory which is no traffic and no load regulations ( our own mine and our own road ). Also, road conditions is basic dirt terrain that we repair, grade our self when and where nessecary. We have just bought 08 new 25T trucks to haul, which excavator size would get maximum cycle?? Which would you guys would recommend. I'm thinking in either two CAT 320D if 20T size excavators, or the bigger size might be KOMATSU PC300-8... over here the PC300's are not commonly used, mostly the smaller size. I realy don't have any consumption and reliablity ideas of this size compared to the smaller. THANKS

well i would say that on a 10 kilo haul an conservative turn would be 2 trips per hour(this is factoring fueling and average brake downs and bs). so in am 8 hour day a truck will pull 16 loads and 8 trucks will be 128 loads a day. that is a lot for one machine. not imposable but that is 16 loads per hour or a load every 3.75 minutes all day. it can be done but that operator will never have a chance to light a smoke. but on the flip side this is 3200 yds a day. i think that there is not much need to get a bigger hoe unless you are loading bigger trucks. i know our lime stone is 1 yard to 1.6 tons so that makes your 25 ton trucks hauling 15 yards of material that is about 6 buckets with a 2.5 yard bucket. which i think is about right. if you had a 336 with a 3.3 yard bucket you would 4.5 buckets to load the trucks a savings of 1.5 swings not that great for a lot of money. i would look at two machines, which would make it easier of you had a breakdown or maintenance. and you can load two at once and maybe add a few trucks to the mix. i think i would start with the one 320 and add another if needed.

Hi lgammon, You have calculated right on target, at least it's the same #'s I got. I was thinking to start off with two 320D's, but as stated before, is it possiable to increase the cycle with two larger 300's?? If it's getting the same amount but drinking more then there's really no point to up size. On the other hand, if it's making more returns it should be worth the investment in machine and consumption. As said i don't have any ideas regarding the 300's or of this size excavators. Either way it must be two crawlers, we can't risk to loose our contract bc of excavator not working. TKS

In the US used market, 320's are the hot machine. You can buy a 324 or 325 for very little more $, and up your production
