Hi All Question on a Cat 320DL serial number PHX01492. Machine quit running and would not restart. Cat came out and did an injector leak down test and said the injectors had to be replaced. They came and replaced the injectors, machine started, ran for about 20 seconds and cut off. Will not start. Cat man did a injector leakdown test again with the reman injectors installed and got no fuel this time, (said there should have been about an ounce) Cat man cracked the injector lines loose and cranked untill each one had fuel at the injector line. Machine started and ran about 20 seconds and cut off. Will not restart. ET shows no rail pressure. Now they say it needs a injection pump. I suggusted something in the shutdown system turning off the fuel? Cat man says the shutdown switch is part of the pump and not serviceable. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Al

They are possibly right because if all the injectors failed they may have failed due to contamination from the pump. The problem now is that the new injectors have had a bad dose also. Did they check the rail relief valve for leakage too?

Injection pump was replaced today and it is running now. It just sounded like they was throwing parts at it hoping for the remedy.

With that particular engine model the usual sequence of diagnostics/parts cannon is: - Rail pressure relief valve, injectors, pump.

No mention of relief valve. Just injectors then pump.
