Cat 325 with 3126 coolant in oil

I have a cat 3126 that is locked up. It was running fine and then we idle down and it made a loud noise and shut off. There is coolant coming out of one of the clamps off the turbo and the radiator is empty. Whenever I fill the radiator it feels the oil pan with coolant. Oil in the head is black and no oil in the pan is milky. Drain some oil out and is mostly coolant. I've read about leaking liners and leaking oil coolers or possibly a water pump. Any help is appreciated , thanks.

Sounds like a blown head gasket or blown o-ring

Don't waste time. Whatever is wrong is major and you might as well pull the engine out now rather than later. When you tear the engine down the root cause, whatever it is, will be obvious.

Yeah, only its on a jobsite, Im trying to figure out a way to at least get it running to put on a trailer.

That's a parent bore engine, right? no sleeves. And the water pump is belt driven, so it can't leak into the crankcase. The oil cooler probably wouldn't leak that fast, not while running anyway with the oil pressure higher than coolant. Was the oil pressure and temp OK before the incident? and is there any oil in the radiator/reservoir? It doesn't need coolant to load it on a trailer, but locked up doesn't sound promising. Have you tried turning the engine over both directions by hand? or just the starter?

Everything was fine, just idled down and it choked and locked up. It will crank and click, sometimes it will turn over slow once or twice (like a weak battery) then lock up again. Only tried starter. Is there anyway to get the water out of the cylinders to get it running? I plan on draining the water, changing the oil and at least get it back to the shop.

You might want to pull the injectors and turn it over to be sure you don't bend or break something because of hydrostatic lockup.

You will have a bent rod or two so get them all checked for straight and length, the water pump belt will most likely be loose as well. They are "out of sight out of mind" and rarely get adjusted up tight. Later Bob

Bar the engine over by hand. A breaker bar on the crankshaft, or pull the starter and pry on the teeth. It shouldn't take much force to turn an engine over, you can do it by grabbing the belt when there's nothing wrong. You don't want to force it, just put 100 ft/lb on it and wait for it to turn, it will take a while if there's water in there, but it might work. I'd try that before pulling the injectors out. Or pull the valve cover and release the water by depressing the valve on the compression stroke. If you had enough air pressure/volume you might even be able to blow the cylinders out while they are near tdc on the exhaust stroke?

Ok thanks. I'll try all that tomorrow.
