Cat 6 way blade rebuild

morph ยท 2015-03-17 12:36

Hi everyone newbie to the forum long time lurker. Currently renovating an old D3B lgp . The joint attaching blade to c frame is worn. Having disassembled it does any one have dimensions for the ball on the pin (7j5131)? I am trying to work out if I need to replace the bracket and cap (3g2573) as well as replacing the ball/pin . Hoping to avoid 2 delivery charges.

Generally the wear is between the ball and split race. You will see if the cap has taken a belting when you get the cap off, and if you measure the pin with Verniers where the ball sits and compare with the rest of the pin, you'll soon know. If there isn't any ovality you will be okay. Likewise check the bracket for ovality, if the pin is a good fit in the bracket, you're okay. Where are you based?

ih100 The ball is resembles some exotic bean, and definitely needs replacing the cap and bracket don't look too bad. Just concerned a new pin might not be enough. Down in the south west but originally local to you.

I bought a new one and welded it on I also built up and ground out the socket to a perfect fit.

Nice job there. What did you use to build up the socket part? It looks so smooth just like a fresh casting polished up. I don't suppose you have an idea of the size of the ball part ? Thinking to get one made up with a bigger ball section.

    Which part?

Trying to understand what cat are doing with the blade angling hydraulic lines, the system appears to rely on oil displacement from the retract side of the rams to operate the rams ?? Difficult to explain. Pumped oil via spool can only go to extend rams As one ram extends it displaces oil from retract side to the other angle ram retract side causing it to shorten sending oil from extend side back to tank. A sort of in series application Why don't the rams work in parallel The parts diagram doesn't show a extra pipe from side to side of c frame .

In your parallel example, it is possible for one cylinder to completely extend before the other starts to retract. Depends on the outside force being exerted on each cylinder. In your series example, as one cylinder moves, the other must immediately move as well. The series idea is how many ag cultivators work so that the wing cylinders maintain the same depth as the main frame. One difference in that app though is that the cylinders are plumbed so that all are forced to retract at the same time (or extend at the same time). This requires different diameters of cylinders/rods so that as the oil from the rod side of one cylinder flows into the piston side of another cylinder, the oil volume stays the same. Andrew
