Need to replace the rear transmission shaft seal on my Cat 916 loader. Anyone know how the double joint shaft is removed ? Unless the rear yoke will slip back an inch or so, this looks to me like trying to work a Rubic's Cube. Any tips appreciated and Thanks beforehand.
If you're referring to the seal on the output shaft from the rear of the transmission to the rear axle the yoke on the rear diff should slide back far enough on the diff input shaft splines for the driveshaft to clear the transmission output yoke. The fidd input yoke is not bolted to the shaft, it slides. Due to space constraints you may have to remove the driveshaft at both ends before the yoke on the rear of the transmission will come out. Be careful when refitting to "time" the yokes and drive shafts correctly right through the machine from the front axle to the back so that all the yokes line up with one another. Note where everything was when it was removed is a good idea.
Thanks. That was the one I was referring to. It's coming out today.
