Cat 980B parking brake button won’t stay in

MattR ยท 2024-05-12 08:28

It's a new parking brake valve. We put it in last fall. It has been working fine. The guys have been using around the pit the spring with no problems. Now as of yesterday they can't get the button to stay in for anything. It feels as though it's fighting itself. We tried putting a little bit of lube in the line. Still can't get it to work. Any ideas? Thank you

Is the machine making full air pressure ? Maybe its a stuck governor on your compressor from sitting.

SIS does not seem to show anything on 980B's but I'm thinking they had straight air brake systems, been many years! Assuming you have good air pressure in reservoir and no leaks in the brake chambers or lines to them I would be guessing that the problem would be the valve itself. I'm attaching the Bendix manual for "Push-Pull Valves" that might help. Not sure if this worked!

If that Attachment does not work can someone tell me what went wrong? It should be a PDF of the Bendix data sheet on push pull brake valves.

Air pressure is all the way up. And it really hasn't been sitting it was loading gravel the day before and doing maintenance on the roads around the pit

First off did the file I posted show up? With full air pressure I would try shutting engine off and then push the parking brake valve down and listen for air flowing somewhere, either inside the valve itself or a line to one of the brake chambers or a chamber itself. Basically this valve needs pressure to build up in the release circuit to hold the plunger in and overcome the spring pressure of the valve itself. So if are any leaks on the release circuit the valve will pop back out.

Yes it did. Thank you. We will work on it again tomorrow. Thanks a lot
