hi, new here. i just bought a d4h xl series 3, looking for input on oil rec's for the transmission, its a powershift. im a farmer, can you run JD hyguard or case hytran in this?thks
Cat has their own ideas on lubricants. Check your manual if you have one. All my Cats use 30 weight in the transmissions.
cat oils thks, i knew every company likes you to use their own oils, didnt know how exclusive cat oils really are, and what wts. they are looking for.thks
Sae 30w is what we use.
what wt oil are you running in the finals, 50wt? did they switch rec on finals to a 60wt. oil? or was that in the bigger machines?....i was told mobil is cat oil, is this true? im thinking i might run the to-4 oil, either napa or mobil, in the trans and hyguard in the hyd., my local Cat isnt so local, but not so far i cant make a trip. my local fuel guy is a mobil dealer.... thanks ALOT for the specs and info
In my book John Deere hygard is way way wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over priced. I use Farm & Fleet hydraulic in all of my machines for hydraulic and have not had any problems. I don't know about Mobil and Caterpillar. All I can tell you there is that who ever makes it for Cat meets their specifications. In my book NAPA is over priced too.
thks, ill call my mobil guy on monday. i buy bulk JD hyguard for cheaper then anything else i can find, i think last fil was mid-upper $6's,it was this fall so dont remember exactly,it was about half price of case hytran by the 55 gal barrel. would you run to-4 50wt in the planetaries?
Be very careful here. I run the same oil in my final drives on my D6H as the transmission and here is why. If the inner seal on the final leaks the oil from the final into the trans and the oil is not compatible with the trans, specifically the friction disks, it may do damage. lots of damage, I found out the hard way and those disks, etc. price is outrageous I run TDTO-4 30w and change it out to a heavier weight for summer.
according to the chart by Lee-online, the 50wt is still rated in the trans, if something should happen, but only down to 50*. id be interested to know/surprised if 1.5gal mixed in with 31 gal it would cause any problems. thks for the insight
D4H Oil IMHO Cat fluids are fairly priced and blended for Cat metallergy and seal composition. I have used Cat oils and ** in my D6H since new and have switched a couple of older machines. Forget JD and Farm and Fleet and find an oil distributor who packages CAT fluids. We also use Cat filters without exception -have found them to be priced competitively and of highest quality. Have had exceptional engine, transmission, and FD service life. As to viscosity-we use CAT DEO 10W30 year around in engines-15W40 is available, but our feeling is that more wear occurs starting than running hot. I exclusively use CAT TMS TDTO in transmissions-this is a multiseason transmission oil-pricey, changed by hours, not temperatures. Hydraulic oil is CAT 10W HYD-no exceptions. In the FD's we use CAT 50W TDTO in summer and 30W TDTO in the winter-not a lot of gallons to change. If your axle seals are current, there should be very little oil exchange with the transmission-your CAT serviceman can change those seals in less than an hour. Hope this helps-good luck.
This is good info, Thanks for asking TJ!
The preffered oil is Cat tdto 30, but you can run a series of oils. Cat TDTO40 in hotter climates or 20 wt in the cold also multi grade Oils like 10W30 or 15W40 but do not use Hy-Guard or Hy-Trans
