Hello Gentleman, First post here, so lets see if someone can help me with my dozer. Bought a used D5H sn 1DD06 built in 1995. Machine is pretty decent for the age, engine good, starts well, runs well, no leaks and no overheating issues. Hydraulics fine, just few sweat leaks, controls few play, again acording to age, hour metter say 12k hours. Transmission is a 3 speed powershift, and this is the source of the problems in this machine... When it gets hot (up to temperature) it starts to show problems when shutling between foward and reward, it starts by being lazy engaging , and after 30min working it goes completly without engaging, it does not completly stops but gets worst and worst to get it on gear, once on gear didn´t found problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd or to 1st, but once it goes neutral it gets dificult to get it on gear. Another thing is the braking, pedal braking it just loks , does not have a fine braking...(if i push the pedal it just brake, not they are smoth when new, but this is too much) Park brake works normal, as far i can notice. Alarm light goes on after some 20min... don´t know from what ... as the gauges are suspected , only coolant temp is showing. and the alternator is not charging. got to fix it. Done nothing, cause don´t know where to start. I´m pretty familiar with mechanics, but not with dozers. Apreciate some imput. Thanks
Fix the alternator problem first would be my suggestion. On a machine with electronics like this one you have no idea how many problems could potentially be caused by low (or fluctuating) system voltage from a non-functioning alternator. My second thought would be Diagnostic Codes. You won't have any service tools to get into the system to find any Active Codes that may be present, but you can get round it. Check out the Click Box thread especially on (I think) the last page where it shows you how to make something temporary with no more than a couple of pieces of wire and 3 electrical terminals. HeavyEquipmentForums Until you sort out the above there is no point messing around with the transmission IMHO.
When my D5h 1dd514 does that I change the trans filter. It becomes lazy with change of direction. Worth a try, you should change all the filters anyway. Hopefully there's nothing more serious going on.
[QUOTE= On a machine with electronics like this one you have no idea how many problems could potentially be caused by low (or fluctuating) system voltage from a non-functioning alternator. Electronics..., i thought this machine had no electronics, beside the gages blowers and starter, could u be more specific? Thanks for your reply, i check out if there are any electronic modules in there.
I thought it had a full-blown electronic operator monitor system. Turns out it doesn't. The only electronics are in the operator monitor unit itself. But again without proper stabilized voltage coming from the alternator I wouldn't bet on it functioning as designed.
Since we are in the TXM theme... has anyone turned a 3304 up? i mean to 150HP area ... 20% increase... in your opinion will the clutches hold ? or better said, how much u guys think the gear clutches hold? has anyone done this type of mods...?
IMHO if you want more power with reliability, buy a bigger tractor.
i have a farm... with lots of protected species tree´s , so a d5 is already too big to crwl between and below them... usually the tractor puls a 30inch 16 disk heavy florestry harrow... no power problem with that. but i have a lot of gwnd to push and a litle more ponies would help... just that... there are cases where bigger is not option...
The brake pedal issue might just be adjustment, the fact that the brakes work is a positive thing, does the steering system work O.K. that is pull the steering control and it clutches out and brake steers to make slow or hard turns, the D5 transmission is easy to pull out and re-seal or repair, I see the tractor is a France built LGP tractor that is common to find in the U.K. I could near be sure it needs at least a re-seal and possibly a pump check, the oil pressure sets the brakes free before the transmission gets any oil so I tend to think the oil supply and control is on the low side. tctractors P.S. don't get to excited about voltage as this is not going to help you shift gear, cables flick your valves I feel.
hy, steering is fine, it steers and brakes , its huge track system so usually is not so soft turning ... but found no problem in that ... What do u mean by reseal? is swaping clutch actuator seals and some others ... The pump , well its a 25ish year machine ... i pretty positive it had pumped a lot of sand and debris around... i got a brake test sheet somewhere, wich also sets brake tuning , its a matter of fixing it... would trans presure mesurements shed some light on this pressure issue? How do i inspect the pump for wear?
I started to get shifting problems on my 1DD lgp D5 years ago.Worked fine with no heating issues or power loss. Was the clutch plates in tranny. TC tractors had it out and away for repair in a couple of hours (and it had a ripper on). Wasn’t expensive to buy the parts
Check the magnetic strainer
Hy gents… New filter, 120lts of MOBIL trans fluid, problems gone. Thanks for the help.
BTW the trans strainer and old filter come out empty of any concerneable debris. Only common steel dust and some paint and rust. Got to check the converter strainer… I guess not so important.
