I have quite a bit of experience with D8L machines in quarries and clay pits, but not in AG work. My gut feeling is they would be too big and heavy for this work. Also, it is going to cost a bunch to move a D8L down the highways from job to job. As I recall, the D8L is about the same size as a D9N. Cat later downsized the D8 series of tractors. Then, the 8L pretty much became the 9N.

With new style tile outlet terraces their is a lot of heavy earth moving. A typical cut is 30 ft long tapering from 0 to 1 ft then piled into terrace. Right now im using a D5H with 6 way blade would like to get something big to cut in 1 pass and then finish with D5h moving should not be a big issue will not be going over 10 miles of country roads. also would like to use for plowing in perforated tile

A fully-equipped D8L is going to weigh somewhere in the region of 100,000 pounds, a tad more than your D5H.

I'm not sure a d8l would be a cost effective machine to run in that small of a cut.
