the discussion in the shop today was if the d9g trans will work in the 9h from a look at the parts book i was told the only differance was either the input or output shaft going to the TC but ground speed is differant between the two. I will know more next week. we are only working 40 hr weeks and im not going in tomorrow. the other thing they are doing is taking the motor out of the G and puting it into a differant H this is where i have a ? is there a aftermarket starter conversion for eliminating the pony motor?
Sounds like a bunch of switching around for what ever reason I don't know. Easy to convert from pony to direct electric start. Have to convert to 24 volt system from 12 volts to be able to charge those big batteries hooked in series. To really do it right will require glow plugs and all of the wiring associated with them. Good luck. Lots of heavy bull work here for you
one H has bad trans and rather than rebuild we can take the one out of the G that was rebuilt a few years back. and another H has alot of blow by so that warrents either a rebuild or swap either way all 3 of the machines are on their last leg before we buy new or complete overhaul and with the big dirt jobs becoming more and more rare why not get rid of some of the antiques or utilize some of the parts. Im just glad I dont have to work on them. but i may take some pics of the progress the guys are making and update on what will and wont fit together without some duct tape and tack welds
D9H has a stronger forward clutch pack. There is a extra set of plates in there. Not really a good idea to put G trans in a H.
what makes the ground speed differance between the two of them
So why not take the engine and trans out of the G and put them both into one of the H's and then the engine out of the bad trans H and put it into the other H. Then you would basically have one H and one H/G.
from what the fellas tell me they still need to change the output shaft. but from the tear down adnd cleaning everything up it looks like they are just going to rob parts from the g trans. either way im happy to have more room in the dozer line up because after they are done one of these frankendozers are going to be scrap iron
