Cat Excavator 320D Overheating problem

Mathewoman2024 · 2024-08-07 04:00

Engine temperature and hydraulic temperature are rising quickly after only a short period of operation. Any advice on how to address this issue?

For my CAT 320C the issue was clogged cooling fins. It was amazing how much dirt and gunk came out of my radiator fins...early summer the temps got up to about 9 out of 10 on my CAT 320C. After the radiator clean it has not gone above 8 on even the hottest days.

This bubbled out of the radiator when I first started cleaning the fins.

Have you inspected the fan belts and fan clutch ?

Both checked...but still showing some error

The "000B" on the screen indicates that the calibration of the particular function is unsupported, but you are interested in searching for Diagnostic Codes at this point, not calibrations. Please supply a Serial Number to allow diagnostic information to be located. Without the S/N it's much more difficult.

Thank you for your reply. The serial number of the equipment is CAT0320DJKGF03970.

The attached document shoes how to enter Diagnostic Mode and access Codes, etc. You will need the Password for this process. The default password (provided that nobody has changed it) is FFF2

That's a very respectable hour meter reading for a small machine. Assuming the radiators are clean, here's what your problem is likely to be. Your machine was originally shipped with a fan drive hub with the wiring coming out of the front, between the fan and radiator. By now that will have been changed to the later style with the wiring coming out of the back of the hub on the engine side. Whatever you have is irrelevant really - the drive hub has failed. Second. If they haven't recently been replaced, the belts and pulleys are worn out. You will need new crank and fan pulleys, and a new belt.

Thank you for the information. I’ll use the default password FFF2 to enter Diagnostic Mode and access the codes. If I encounter any issues or if the password has been changed, I’ll let you know.
