Cat forklift starter

New guy here. Working on a Cat 545 10 ton forklift for my paw in law. He took the starter and had it rebuilt but doesn’t remember how the wires go. I’ve tried to google it, but some pics say ground, others say hot wire goes to big lug on the end of the starter gear. Anyone have a clue? Thanks in advance!

Can you post a pic of the starter end; like standing on its nose with the other end up visible, showing the end of the solenoid posts to connect to. Need to see the posts and their ends...

It’s mounted on the forklift already. It’s the rusty nut close to the block on the right end of the starter in the second pic I posted.

The positive battery cable should hook to the solenoid. The post that is farther away from the starter. The ground cable usually hooks to the back of the starter on that rusty nut. Clean that up good o that you are getting a good connection.

Agreed ^^^^. There should be also a small wire like 10 or 12 gauge that goes on the solenoid "S" Terminal. TD24's idea of a picture of solenoid end would help. Simon C
