Is there a better answer for the 3114 engine in a IT24F loader. Tired of putting them in every 1700 hrs. This time Cat says $11,400 just for engine and they don't show any available. Can get oversize pistons or sleeves for them, but not sure that is the route to go. What is the best thing to do?
Every 1700 hours you need a motor?????? I had problems with Cat on the motor for my 320BL it would overheat almost everytime we used it. Every once and a while it wouldn't do it. Cat would come out either say nothing was wrong with it or change something like the thermostat. At 8000 hours it locked up. New motor was $13,500 and Cat was $2000 to take it out and put it in. I would suggest getting rid of the loader for something else if you can afford it. My cousin just bought a nice Komatsu WA250 with 2500 hours for $70,000. WHat's going wrong with the motor anything in particular?
Trade it and get a WA 250 Komatsu with a coupler!
The biggest problems have been from overheating. Too many different people running it that don't care. This last time cracked cylinder head and scored cylinders.
My 320 ended up have a blocked port in the head. i would try and fight Cat on it, if it's under warranty.
Ever have any problems with the bucket being tilted all the way back and it randomly tilts all the way forward? The problem seems to calm down a bit when the machine has been used for an hour or so.
its herd to beat the old 3300 series engines. they ran forever. I figure that is why they arent put in anything anymore. 3114 should run alot longer than 1700 hours though. I understand the people not caring thing too. I would fix it one more time and then install a Murphy shut down system. it will protect against stupid. that will stop any over heating and low oil issues.
My IT18F has over 11000 hours on its original 105 HP 3114T engine (the exact same engine as the IT24F) and it's been rock solid. Must be operator abuse or a bad unit you had GOINGBROKE (though you don't seem to be on HEF much anymore). Akcat89, you may have some metal debris stuck somewhere in one of your valves that's causing that. The issue you describe is not common or normal from what I've seen.
