What would you say in comparing the new K series D3, D4, D5, and D6, dozers to the G series?
Well there isnt a G model that compares to a 6K. the old 5N was replaced by the 6k. Although on the 6k you still retain a pivot shaft and equalizer bar like the bigger dozers where the 5k down have solid roller frames. Me personally I like the big open doors of the K series. Im a big guy and I always got tired of worming my way through the narrow door openings on a G series. Gs were great machines but You get seat mounted controls on a K and you can also change the blade modulation and hystat response rates on the dash of the Ks since thier electrohydraulic. So if you want to finish you can slow down the response rate and if your Hoggin, you can set the speed to fast. It doesnt change the top speed of you hydraulics just how fast they respond. And if that isnt good enough you can have your CAT service tech turn down the valve current calibrations even further to smooth out the hydraulics to your likings Combine that with the thumb roller on the blade angle and it builds quick confidence in a new operator who hasnt learned good blade control yet, sine most new operators fnd it hard to grade level with an angled blade on a machine with a T handle. they tend to to dip and cut, but the thumbroler angles the balde level so they can feed thier windrow off to one sid without gouging the finished surface.
D5k I have a d5k and love it!! Would like to buy a 6k next. Machine controls on the k are awsome. Hope i never have to go back to g !! Love the thumb roller on the blade and throttle. Its a great machine.
The automatic blade shaker on the K series is nice when pushing sticky stuff.
Sounds Korny when you first learn about it but after 10 hours of working in sticky material, its the CAT's MEOW!! lol
