We are redoing the engine on an old Cat Track Loader 955H s/n 60A8345. Engine question. In taking out the cylinder liners, taking out the first resulted in exposing thin shim pipelike "tubes" about the ID of the new and old cyl liners and OD of the block holes and about 1/8 inch thick and about a half inch wide. Is it a D330 engine block or 3304 block with short shim pipelike pieces to shrink engine bore of a 3304 block from 4.75 to the 4.50 cylinder sleeves for D330? Is such a thing done? Is this what happened to this engine in the past? Are such thin shim pipelike "tubes" available anywhere or do we have to make new ones, as one broke on cyl sleeve removal? Got new sleeves, head gasket and piston rings from CTP in Miami and probably need new crank bearings now it's apart. Rear 2 cylinders broke through the head gasket to each other. To me it indicates either the head boltw were not tightened properly or the tops of the sleeves were not the same height or high enough to have the gasket seal properly on all cylinders. Also how about a turbo replacement for a partially broken turbo for this or parts?
Sounds like the block has been counter bored and shimmed to get liner height right keep the shims with the same bores and check liner height
