Cat truck engine parts and service

norite ยท 2010-09-01 00:09

I am considering purchasing a new to me dump truck. Several trucks that I have looked at have Cat engines. I hear that Cat is getting out of the truck engine business. Does anyone know if new parts and service will be available from Cat in a few years from now?

That is one of Cat Corps. big strengths. Generations after other companies quit supplying parts for some old machine they're still there. Yes you'll pay but you can still get parts.

Yes Cat is expensive however they can get you damn near anything in a timely manner even if its for a machine or truck they haven't made in 15 years+

Not to mention they arent getting out of the engine business, just the truck engine business. The engine will still be used in various pieces of equipment.

Ive heard rumors that cat is getting back into the truck engine business. Even to the point that they may be building cat "over the road trucks" soon? Maybe just rumors? Maybe someone on here can tell us more?

A Cat "on highway" truck will be debuted at 2011 con-ex show in vegas. From what i've heard The trucks are supposed to be catered to the construction industry, they are not building a "highway" tractor.

As you can see from the pics, the steerin wheel is on the wrong side. They just made their debut in Australia. They will be out here next year, but will be marketed under Navistar. Cat technology, Navistar will piece it all together.I was at my local Cat dealer this morning looking for a set of keys one of my escorts lost the other night and had a chat with the Truck Shop Manager. He said they will be under the Navistar name ,,, so it's going to be a joint venture. It's tempting, but I think my delving into the electronic world of engines has gone as far as I want to go with my '98 and '99 models. I looked at the new Mack with the 600HP engine. It's nothing more than a Volvo with a Bulldog stamp on the hood. One of those that will only give you the torque IT thinks you need. Isn't that almost like all the other dummy proofing items they have added to trucks and equipment. OOPS,,,,sorry. Didn't mean to get off target there.
