Cat314d or komatsu pc138-us ?

method ยท 2016-02-13 06:48

We are looking at purchasing another excavator. We wish to buy another 14t machine and currently have a 314D and 314C. We have found another 314d with 5000h and a pc138-us with 3000 hours. Price wise they are similar and we have been very happy with our cat gear. Our machines suffer a hell of a lot doing demolition work at least 6 days a week but we are unsure what to buy. I notice the cat is a 4.2L and the komatsu is 3.2L but power output is the same? Would the extra displacement make a large difference when working? Our 314D uses a lot of fuel compared to the C and cat have told us the new tier 4 in the E series is even worse, as well as hitachi telling us the same thing. If anyone could share their experience with the pc138 or give us some advice on why they would prefer this over the cat it would be much appreciated. Here in Melbourne, Cat service is ridiculously expensive and unreliable. Parts are easy to get though. Komatsu is probably a little worse on the parts and slightly better in service costs but not by much.

I should add both machines are 2011 models and Hitachi said their machines use a lot of fuel with the TIer 4 engines. Sorry for the confusion

Welcome to the Forums Method!:drinkup Ran a few 314's in the local dealer's rental fleet, C's and D's. Impressed by the machine and I would like to ad one to the fleet as it's a pain to mob. our 321. What little experience I've had with Komatsu equipment has been lack luster, not at all impressed with our local dealer.

We have run Komatsu 138s in the past and PC 130s but be warned the SAA4D95 are junk we had loads of problems with them blowing up, my advice would be buy a Cat.
