caterpillar 941 hub seal leak

keith-50 ยท 2013-01-09 11:58

after adjusting hub bearings now I have leaks on each sprocket only on out side . drips on outer track pads while setting overnight. no leaks on the inner seals. Trying to pull support assembly with two jaw puller and have wacked support with sledge hammer, still unable to get support to release from tapered shaft. Is there a certain tonnage puller that must be used to remove support assembly? have also drove punch through pinch clamp on end of support. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

If the leaks just started after adjusting, I would wet down the seal area with a hose and run the machine first. The leak might be from dry mud getting into the seal area. Other wise once you pull the outer seal to do that leak you will create a new leak on the inside of the sprocket. It happens to me all the time, I pull the sprocket and do inside and out or leave it alone. You need some pulling tools to get outer holder off. Load up preload adjustment and then put adapter on the dead shaft and hit it with a sledge. Outer holder will come off then. Later Bob
