Changing suction filter on TD7E with Small Transmission

Our TD7E is a late model (Serial Number > XXXXXX9501) with the small transmission. Since the tranny and the torque converter are above the suction filter, will removing the suction filter housing to clean the suction strainer cause the loss of tranny/torque converter fluid?

Not being familiar with the TD7E, however by your description I'd estimate; Yes a lake of oil could form fairly promptly. There is discussion in this forum about a vacuum tool to keep the oil in the housing, but it may not be suitable for your machine? HeavyEquipmentForums

Removed the filter and had no spillage. Filter had a little bit of metal and what looked like glossy black paint chips. I cleaned up the screen in diesel and blew it out with compressed air. No change in clutch pressure which I expected since the screen was not restricted with debris. The filter assembly was a Lenz DHA750-60R with the 5062-60 SS screen. It was smaller then what is shown in the parts manual and does not have a spring. I suspect it is an aftermarket replacement and not OEM. Anybody know?

    Correction! it's a DHA1000-60R filter assembly

Maybe there was a change in what filter was used from the factory or your machine was made at a transition so could be either of two options?? Seems odd someone would change to an aftermarket tranny. filter. Also could the spring be missing.

No there is no space for the spring as the filter fills the entire bowl and there are three "legs" that it sits on.
