So, got an old paddle scraper. Just getting started on checking it out. It appears that the air system isnt working, but it does drive forward and backwards. In further investigation, it appears as though it may use air to shift the transmission? Any info on that? We are looking into why the air is disabled, but as it Sets, it cannot climb a small hill (barley made it on the lowboy). Engine is a Detroit, and believe it’s stamped with 3 69 on it.
Well, I was able to buy a maintenance manual. Well, assumption that it was air shift is incorrect, it’s hyd shift. And so now we at least have a starting point for troubleshooting
So, it appears that the torque converter has too much oil bypassing (leakage) 3x what the manual says is acceptable. This torque converter is a C273 5 11, has anyone here disassembled and reassembled? I am assuming it’ll have a bad seal or o-ring in it, and hope that is all that is wrong with it.
Have you had any success with the transmission ?
Some. We found that the metal seals (kinda like a piston ring) in the torque converter were bad. Was able to get new parts and put it back together. We disassembled the shifting control, and the control on top of the transmission. It is hyd shift and one valve was sticky. We got it cleaned up. We test drove it, and while we can feel it shift thru all gears, and in 1st it can spin the wheels if you try and put the pan deep. We believe we still have an issue, possibly a clutch slipping. But, with the weather we parked it and are working on other projects indoors.
Great to hear you've made some progress. Down here in the southern hemisphere we're looking for shade as we're in the midst of a heatwave 38-42c (100F +)
I’ve got a 110. Regular scraper, not paddle. Would like to buy book/manual. Tia
We call them "elevating scrapers" Paddle "grrrrr"
Ya, but you’re already upside down. “Wooooooof”
