Cleaning inside dozer frame?

watglen ยท 2018-01-29 16:12

Hey again, I have a D6H with years and years of accumulated oily dirt covering everything under the floor/seat. What is the best way to clean all the crud off. Products or methods? Thanks,

Drop all the belly pans & have at it with the power washer

You could pull the ole Tom Sawyer trick and let the kids or whoever watch you do it. "Man this is so much fun but not just anybody can do it......". They'll be fighting over the wand. It'll take many passes to get it all. Drop the pans, dig out as much as you can before you turn it into mud. Try to park somewhere it'll drain as you wash. Once it's fairly clean you can spray some degreaser on the oily spots and let it soak. Come back and hit it again. Steam helps. Buy a cheap raincoat and pants to stay somewhat dry. Good glasses or a face shield cause **** will come from every direction. I've spent an entire day on some machines......

Yup.. RENT a STEAM cleaner for a week & go to town.. Just check the plug-in.. the one we had ran off of 220 & had the 3 or 4 prong [clothes dryer] plug.. We just bought an adaptor.. That water got so hot it'll scald ya.. WELL WORTH THE MONEY.. & the rain suit & glasses are a great idea.. don't forget the boots.. Have fun..

Face shield rain coat and a steam cleaner with lots of degreaser

Sometimes if you have lots of dirt not baked on grease, high volume low pressure works good. My track skid steers get this treatment because of all the hoses and crap in a small area. The high pressure will just scatter the crud everywhere for 20 minutes where the high volume water gets it out. Works good on tracks and frames too.

True, often just a good flow from a water truck or hydrant does wonders. Something about the belly of a dozer....neglect, time, vibration etc. Might as well be concrete in some places. I pulled the drive motor cover off a rig yesterday to address a leak. Holy buckets was that stuff packed in there hard.

Best thing I found to wear used for real nasty cleaning job was a pair of bibbed wader paints. The kind with the feet in them. Just put a pair of oversized boots on to protect the feet from things and a good heavy rain coat and a helmet line strapped on to keep head sort of clean. Biggest problem is face and eyes. Face shield and glasses are good but get splattered fast so you will be working blind most of the time! Work in layers and stop every so often to inspect so you can flush away the crap on the ground and decide where to concentrate next.

Oh Yeah be dressed for the rain storm when you get into the cleaning as it WILL blow back!!

Can be a bit like an archaeological dig emptying out the crankcase guard . I found a dolls head once . If you warm your dozer up first then pour diesel over everything letting it soak for a while is enough . Low pressure , high volume works for me . Water blasters tend to take off paint as well

Personally I prefer to use a rotary nozzle on the end of my pressure washer wand. It seems to eat through the grime better and doesn't seem to blow back in my face near as bad as a regular nozzle. Just my $.02
