http://www.abc15.com/content/news/s...borhood-1-injured/x7yG7BTdZEKC18oG3rWvog.cspx The tree climber obviously cut too big of piece, but the interesting thing about this is if you look closely the boom cylinder snapped off when the tip hit the ground, which allowed the boom rest to land close to the top of the boom. So if there is any crane operators on here from Arizona don't work for a tree care company called Tree Pros!!
I only see one outrigger pan ..and no dunnage ..In theory ..nothing should have been moved .. On a street ..no apparent signage or caution tape.. I wonder if the tree guys had their green log weight chart with them, It's required that the climber ,operator and push have one before work begin's in some States ..Its required by ANSI ..correct? Looks like a structual failure ..shock or just overloaded ..lucky it was only one guy injured ..not killed ....
This may give a better explaination Just plain overloading.
I think you've got it truckman. Looks like the crane was set up where the fire truck now is, front end opposite of where tree is, working boom over rear. Cut the tree, crane couldn't handle the weight, boom came down in upright orientation and rested on ground. By then, the front of the crane was beyond vertical and the carrier flipped over backwards, snapping the boom and boom cylinder attachments. How in the heck did that operator not get killed? That crane is now probably nothing more than expensive scrap metal.
I disagree Atco .. A man like your self could fabricate a log spliter ,shear and a press with that unit ..Not scrap ..:drinkup
LoL... ...now, if I could just figure out how to incorporate this LMI on my new log splitter.
Load chart... by the looks of the tree laying on the ground .... It looks like they should have waited for the 31000 manitowoc... Looks like they try to take all the tree at once... the one limb may have benn cut to open the road up.....
I bet Smiley is not smiling now.
boom trucks aren't cranes
I knew that one was coming
Very few times we have rented to tree outfits,Mainly because if the unknown weight factor and never less than a 50 ton machine. Someone is real lucky they didn't get a ride in a black limo
You know it :drinkup
The size of crane does not change the risk a 30 tonner or a 300 ton crane failing will be very bad. And we all know the inexperienced or ignorant guys who cause these accidents will just send out a bigger piece on a bigger crane. As tree guys we have the 5th deadliest job, fire fighters and police officers are down the list somewhere around 34th or 35th. Cranes make our job much easier and safer, unfortunately for crane operators worldwide who are hired by those who are dangerous and cause these accidents they will start bringing crane operators up this list.
Words the Media uses to excite chaos, sell the news or provoke riots: A Crane Disaster: anything that has fallen over lifting something What is actually is: boom truck, man-lift, tow truck, lattice crane, mobile crane, tower crane (maybe) A bulldozer: The construction machine used to level the house or building after the disaster. What it actually is: Anything painted yellow on a construction site like a A Loader, Excavator, or maybe even a Dozer A Blizzard: A massive snowstorm moving cross country causing power outages What is actually is: Any snowfall over 8 inches A Firestorm: An all consuming mass of fire displacing thousands What it actually is: a fast moving contained wild fire
