Got some Engine trouble. The display says sid:21-3 i mounted a new crankshaft sensor and still got the error code.but i noticed in the spare parts list that its a shim availible but i didnt see any shim when i changed the sensor. Is it possible that it wasnt Any shim? Or did i just missed it and dropped it?
hi mrcowboy, there are two sensors the same on this machine, one measures camshaft and the other measures crankshaft. did you select the correct one. yes there usually is a shim behind the sensors without the shim it is possible for the sensor tip to hit either the camshaft gear or the flywheel teeth . the OEM says to use a special tool to gauge sensor shim width. if you are careful you can install sensor without the shim and hold gently against the internal gear teeth, in this position use a feeler gauge and measure the clearance between the sensor and the mounting face ,you can then select a shim that gives the sensor clearance from the teeth usually about .5 mm Mark
the sensors has the same spareparts number. It doesnt hit the teeths on the flywheel. Im ordered a new sensor just to see if its something wrong with the one i bought. I meuseured it with a multimeter and got 0,8mohm so it should be working. The old one was broken.
SID 21-3 is for the camshaft sensor not the crankshaft sensor. Most likely you have a faulty sensor or a harness/connection issue. If installed incorrectly the sensor will be damaged or if not installed close enough the signal will be weak and could cause this code. The shim is used to adjust the signal strength of the sensor. If anyone has been inside the valve cover and damaged the tooth wheel on the camshaft it will cause issues too.
oh the volvo mechanics are really good at volvo! i bought prosis now. I think its going to help me alot! going to change the sender to the camshaft and hope its helping. No one has been inside the valve cover since i bought the machine. dont use it so much.
If you have Prosis and have the service info follow description and measuring for SE2703. I would check the circuit before I replaced a sensor.
