Or at least a Fat Allis. Good day gone to hell and back. Dragged the Rust ball out of the weeds. My pickup would not budge so grabbed up FA and right on out. Had good and hot well charged battery, decided to put FA back in the shade and right brake went to floor, no worry will adjust Later, and Back into barn. Install battery, cranks excellent had some low fluids so put that right then sampled gas in tank, not as bad as would have thought so cranked for all was worth, no gas at carb. Fill a container and dope thru carb, get running and keep running dribbling gas in, still No Gas, most likely diaphragm pump is shot. So back to Allis. Adjust right brake, Still goes to floor, dealt with this before. Moved to donor to get after the brake assemblies, still need to remove clutches and lower shoes assemblies, have to come out as a unit as no clearance for end furnishings on lower shoes sections. This is what I removed on donor: This is my first go round with this operation Several years ago:
And YES Same side, to which was explained to Dial OFF the brake power assist which has been negligible since then. This is how the assemblies come out:
....and the thread title had me thinking this was about past dating experiences.
Been there TOO!!
Thought you were roasting a pig.
The pig is roasting ME
You are a brute for punishment Dave !
Just some days!!
And if I recall correctly, you are retired with bad this and a bad that and a bad dingus But you say your having fun
Keeps the pieces moving even as painful, better than locking down!!
Rains moving in Still other projects in the/my forest fire Offloaded the angle will use for a roughing screen/sieve for big rocks chunks of concrete etc from feed lot and future dirt piles Used my crane/forklift/power shovel and ag tractor to put in shed 7 sticks 3x3x 5/16 x 20 For when FA is fixed
And then it only gets worse. Got the old Chevy Dump where can work at it, got a electric pump hooked on gas lines will not pull anything but air, unscrewed stand pipe had rusted OFF. While trying to calculate that out to fix noticed some drip spots on ground, three places the old hydraulic brake tubing is leaking and also rotted thru, just decided to start leaking. Cab is junk, bed pretty well crap, pretty much scrap iron at this point.
This was several years back, Left door glass is down in door, regulator rotted off, near to nothing left of cab floor or rockers.
Looks like my stuff: if you stand back far enough and squint, it looks pretty good Keep at it!
What I would dearly like to find would be an old GMC/Chevrolet Single Axle Tractor with air brakes. Gas or Diesel, no engine would be even better. Swap this hoist to it and weld some steel to fill the rust back in on the bed, maybe side slip a 6.2L diesel into it. Be gutless but BIL would be satisfied and could keep it working.
I have a 6.2L diesel sitting on a pallet in my Dad's barn. Been there 10 years since the donor truck rotted in half. I was going to put it into a rock crawler for something unique and then life happened and it just became another unfinished project. It needs a new home...
Depends what come up with May make you a deal
Spoke with a local yard, MAYBE Might have a decent cab late 70s, early 80s, not quoted a price yet, then does have a 77 C70 runs does not drive $2250 no bed hydraulic drum brakes. Drive shafts are out of it(been sold). He is going to send photos in a bit. May be able to come up with a complete cab for a grand, get the derelict up here to shop, get the cab off then go to fixing juice brake tubing and fuel feed from tank may be a option. Cab off can also fix the flowing P/s Fluid issue, reseal the old Saginaw on it.
You can have it, no deal necessary. I'm not guaranteeing condition though. It has sat a long time. I'll try to see if I can bar it over next time I'm there, make sure it hasnt seized up. I might even be making a trip south in search of a rust free long bed for my truck. If that pans out, I can load it up amd bring it south with me.
Bring it on, always looking for extra work!!! PM Me and will give directions should you head thru this way!!
Are those cabs same as a pickup?
Almost, floor pan(including mount horns) and firewall/cowl different, a few controls set up and wiring harness different where typical cross overs are rockers, doors, dash and some heater hardware, switches, glass except back glass and for some stupid reason W/S wiper arms
I had a similar truck with a 366, swapped in a 6.2 diesel, went down in power, but probably gained 5x fuel mileage. Biggest problem was the truck had air brakes, had to fabricate mounts and pulleys for the air compressor. Overall it worked well, was pretty slow, but would run all day on 5 gallons of fuel.
