As I recall that machine is set up for twenty four volts with the two batteries hooked up in series. It sounds like your alternator is going bad. You can charge one battery at a time on twelve volts. As long as you hook your 12 volt charger up to the positive and negative terminals on one battery at a time you should be OK. Good Luck!

When you said Did you mean you left the lights on, or you turned them on and noticed they were weak and this is how you came to the conclusion that the batteries were flat? If your 100% sure there were no accesories left on, then check the output of your alternator as John said. If you dont know how to do this, feel free to ask.

We had the same problem found out it was our GPS tracking systems draining the batteries...

I got a little ahead of myself. I was assuming that the machine was running while you noticed the lights and horn were weak, which led me to believe there was a problem with the charging system. If this is the case, check for a loose alternator belt, loose, broken, dirty or corroded terminals on either the battery or the alternator or a defective battery that will not accept a charge. After you have checked these and found them all to be as they should, then you can proceed to testing the alternator. Assuming you have not installed any recent after-market accessories which could be drawing current from your batteries, causing your batteries to be low on charge, there could be numerous other causes. For example, the usual suspects are cold weather, relays, switches, lights, ignition, interior lights, radios, dampness and of course a defective battery to name a few, others will be machine specific.

ended up battery connection was bad. re did all connections and charged up batterys works fine now. how do you check to see if the alternator is doing what it is supposed to.

If you have a ohm meter....put it across the negative of one battery and then to the positive of the second battery. While engine is running you should see approx 25 to 27 volts depending on battery condition. Turn on the lights or some load and you will see either a small discharge for a second or two and then it will go back to the original 25+ volts. Turn engine and it should read the increased volts and slowly come down to 24 volts. Hope this helps. Reddog848

Connect a voltmeter across the positive and the negative feed cables at the batteries to the engine. Start it up and you should see about 25 to 27 volts, turn on some load (lights etc) you should then see a increase in volts and then it will come back to the 25+ volts. Turn off load and volts will increase for a few seconds then come back to normal again. Turn off engine and volts will stay around the 24 volts or maybe about 25 or so. No increase in volts= bad alternator. Hope this helps, Reddog848

On all Komatsu charging systems ...key in the on postion engine not running...check voltage at th R terminal.....if you have more than 3 volts present..the diode trio inside is bad....repair alternator...
