D3 Final Drive Leaking

BenH ยท 2014-05-24 08:58

My 79U D3 has a significant leak right behind the final drive sprocket, it's dripping down on top of the tracks. Anyone know what seal that might be? What is involved in getting to it and replacing it? I'm considering whether I want to try to tackle it myself.

It's the sprocket seal. You need a few press tools. It would likely be best to hire someone with them. Later Bob

What kind of price range could I expect on a job like that? Are the press tools for the track? Thanks for your help.

Ben, you're looking at possibly 2 sets of press tools for this job. The track master pin press for splitting the track followed by the good old 3-legged hydraulic puller for getting the sprocket off. The seal that is leaking on your tractor is right behind the sprocket. Although your tractor is smaller see this thread, right on Page 1 it has some good photos of the pulling gear needed. The downside is that not many companies have this type of tooling lying around any more.
