Sn 51x0692 This dozer runs great for roughly 30 mins then cuts off, at this point the fuel filter will be empty. If you refill the filter it will crank and run fine for a while the it repeats the process. I was told they try a new filter, removed the fuel line at the tank and had good flow there and also blew the line out from pump to tank. Oh and cleaned the sediment bowl. Any help would be appreciated.
I have very limited knowledge so,, is there a vent for the fuel tank that may be obstructed??? A quick check would be to open the fuel cap to release vacuum if this is the problem. Hope this may be helpful.
Did you unscrew and clean the small brass filter that's inside the sediment bowl? There may be a piece of rag floating in the fuel tank that regularly blocks the tank outlet. Blowing back into the tank possibly only moved it back a bit, then it moved back into the outlet again once you started and ran the engine. Did you drain and inspect the inside of the tank with a borescope camera? A blocked vent in the fuel tank cap usually shows up when you unscrew the cap, and the tank hisses as it sucks in air.
Yes, to everything that Ozdozer said. 51X0692 is a japanese built ps D4E, PC 3304 with scroll fuel pump. They were the predominant source of smaller Cat crawlers for the southern pacific area. Abit unusual in that it found its way to the land of the dollar bill, from japan. Especially when all other equivilent same models of D4E were USA built. Best thing about all that era japanese built engines was that they all used old scroll fuel systems instead of the more troublesome SMFS. Even the later DI ones used an 'interim scroll' pump until the New Scroll fuel system came out. Mine, 51X0942, DI engine, is the 3rd one made of the higher 80hp 3304 and has newer style long track frame. Interestingly the very last 3 of the 51X series were also sold in NZ
run with fuel cap loose to see if vent is clogged if not drain fuel tank and look inside for trash that could be blocking fuel outlet. if it is sucking filter dry then fuel flow must be interrupted. also check priming pump to see if leaking
