Hello, my dozer is not wanting to move in 1st gear, however, it will move great in both 2nd and 3rd. Any suggestions as to the cause and a fix, thanks?
I'm assuming that iit won't move in 1st gear both forward and reverse..? First step would be to pull the transmission suction screen and look for burned clutch material accumulated in it. You will need to drain the transmission oil first, when you do, observe the colour (is it dark) and the smell (does it smell burned).
Pull your floor plate up and check your shift linkage for sticks or other junk. Make sure shifter is actually shifting into gear, if you pull transmission filter you can check for parts easier than dropping oil . A longer description of your problem would surly help with a guess . Bob
do a pressure test on your range clutches and do what Nige said. the linkage is cable so I don't think it is your problem
Quick and dirty check. You'll need about a 500psi pressure gauge. Plug into the transmission filter base. Note the transmission pressure in each gear. If it drops considerably in 1st you're more than likely going to be pulling the transmission.
I think P1 is range check it
P1 is the direction clutch, P2 is the speed clutch. However what newguy suggested would work. If the 1st speed clutch has failed then the pressure measured at the filter will stay constant in neutral or in any other speed than 1st. When 1st is selected it will fall like a stone because of the leakage in the clutch.
When did they change shift linkage and why would you just dump oil? Bob
High track models have cable controls that go in at the back of the tranny just below the fuel tank
So you've never seen a D4H? Bob
